Handoff VSCode v0.9–0.10 — Browse and Map Your Project Docs Inside VSCode
Documents stored in .handoff/ are now first-class citizens in the extension: a sidebar browser, a Markdown viewer, and a relationship graph that includes tasks and verification progress.
Handoff VSCode v0.9 through v0.10 are out. The headline: document management inside the editor.
What Was Missing
Handoff MCP can store specs, designs, and ADRs in .handoff/. But until now the VSCode extension focused on tasks, Gantt, and metrics — to read a document you had to open the raw file yourself.
v0.9 changes that.
Sidebar Document Browser (v0.9)
A new Documents panel groups your project documents by type (spec, design, ADR, etc.) and shows their section structure. Select one to open a rendered Markdown viewer with inline section editing.
The bottom panel shows cross-references: which other documents and tasks point to the one you're reading.
Document Relationship Graph (v0.9–v0.10)
v0.9 added a graph of document relationships. v0.10 expanded it significantly:
- Tasks appear as nodes alongside documents, so you can see the spec → task → design chain at a glance
- Documents that share scope are automatically linked
- Each document node carries a verification progress ring showing how far review has gotten
Auto-Refresh on Focus (v0.10.1)
When an AI agent updates a document or task, the change now appears the moment you switch back to the panel — no manual refresh needed.
Other Fixes
- Gantt improvements (v0.10.0) — fixed drag dead zone, assignee filter reset, and the workload heat gauge empty state
- Resilient to broken documents (v0.10.2) — a document with malformed YAML frontmatter is skipped and reported instead of crashing the extension
